MassLNC Performance Evaluation

by Kathy Lussier

The Massachusetts Library Network Cooperative (MassLNC) is pleased to announce that OmniTI http://omniti.com/ has been awarded a contract to conduct a performance evaluation of the Evergreen Integrated Library System.

MassLNC issued an RFP for the evaluation last spring and selected OmniTI after a review of the seven proposals that were received. Assisting with the proposal review were Rogan Hamby (SC LENDS), Sharon Herbert , along with her great technical staff at SITKA, Dan Pearl (C/W MARS), Jason Stephenson (MVLC), Martha Driscoll (NOBLE), and Tim Spindler (C/W MARS).

MassLNC has been busy getting a test server set up for the evaluation (thank you to Thomas Berezansky for his work on this). Once the server is ready, the evaluation will begin in earnest. More details about next steps can be found at http://markmail.org/message/6yzorevfs6xtnn2u.

The timeline for the evaluation is 2 ½ months from when the server becomes available.

MassLNC’s hope is that this evaluation will lead to improvements that will benefit the entire community. Please feel free to send any questions or feedback our way!

This project is funded through a Library Services and Technology Act grant, administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Kathy can be reached at klussier@masslnc.org.

Evergreen 2014 International Conference – “Together We Grow”

by Amy Terlaga

Mark your calendars, everyone! The 2014 Evergreen International Conference is being held in Cambridge, MA at the Boston Marriott Cambridge in Kendall Square. The dates are Wednesday, March 19th through Saturday, March 22nd. We are still getting in survey results (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7LXW35V) to determine what the preferred conference schedule and after-hours activities will be. The local arrangements crew did some preliminary investigations of the local area and they’re pleased to report plenty of eating and drinking opportunities in the Kendall Square area and beyond: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26985478@N00/sets/72157635158823980/.

As soon as we have the conference website up, including more registration information, we’ll post to the evergreen list.

If you have any questions about the 2014 Conference, drop either Kathy Lussier (klussier@masslnc.org) or Amy Terlaga (terlaga@biblio.org) a line.

Here are some library system updates from our Evergreen family:

NC Cardinal

by Tanya Prokrym

NC Cardinal is a consortium of public libraries within North Carolina using Evergreen. NC Cardinal will be migrating its 93rd library branch this year, with the latest library systems being Albemarle Regional (Northampton, Hertford, Bertie, and Gates Counties), Forsyth, Cumberland, and Beaufort-Hyde-Martin Counties. The consortium includes 26 counties and 2 municipalities, approximately 23% of library branches within North Carolina. It serves roughly 9.7 million North Carolinians. NC Cardinal currently includes over 4.2 million library items with approximately 6.6 million circulations to date. Operating since July 2010, the NC Cardinal program began as a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funded project that is now in its third year.

There is a waiting list to join the consortium.
