OpenSRF 1.4 brings some new requirements, such as the libmemcached library. The easiest way to upgrade to a 1.4 release of OpenSRF is to completely install OpenSRF 1.4 from source, including the Makefile.install step for installing prerequisites on your system. You should be able to keep your 'opensrf.xml and opensrf_core.xml'' files the same.
