Notes on User Groups

Just writing down some random thoughts I had that should be considered when we get to the point of selecting user groups that the consultant might work with.

  • We need think of diversity in terms of library types as well as diversity for client use. For example:
    • If we are looking at use of existing client and evaluating cataloging, we should make sure we have at least one group that uses the separate volume/copy editors and at least one that uses the combined volume/copy editors. There may be other UI elements (larger ones, not minor tweaks to the UI) that can be configured through the Library Settings Editor that we want to ensure are covered.
    • We probably should have at least one user from a library that is part of a consortium and at least one that is from a single planting. One branch libraries versus multi-branch libraries (regardless of whether it is in a consortium or not) are other groups that should be represented.
  • If we are looking at use of the existing client, we probably do NOT want to include user groups from sites that have heavily customized clients (e.g.rejiggered patron display).
